Little Pig Little Pig

What a difference a few months make, after years of naysaying, the property market did crash, taking my plans with it. Add to that the council sending through their £4700 bill to be paid in full within 2 years (ie monthly installments) and Talk Talk threatening to charge me a call out of £140 for the privilege of them telling me I've broken my landline, when I haven't touched a thing and I suspect it's the bastards who are doing the major works in the block, that will result in a slapdash and invasive procedure that I don't even want, who have broken it.

Oops that sounded medical, I really mean they're replacing pipes, by not actually replacing them but by installing them on the interior walls of my flat. Which no doubt will actually look fabulous, adding even more to the value. Or not.

Still the weather has come good (I'm sunburnt for goodness sake) and my bike is looking a treat. Now if I can just learn to live within my means whilst supporting the council of course, I'll be in a bit of control.

Little boxes.

My flat is really tidy. Not necessarily clean, but tidy. My chosen agent came round to take photos and measurements earlier and so I tidied and now I am wandering about trying not to mess it up again. I'm sitting occupying a very small neat space by the laptop keeping things neat. It's feeling somewhat oddly repressive.

It's a lovely mock spring afternoon, perhaps I should pop out instead of sitting here being neat?

Actually I'm researching agents to go and see tomorrow. Looking at lovely flats that are under offer and trying to be as realistic as I can as to what I can afford and indeed what I really really want. Zigga Zig Ah.

How Long?

Fuck me, I haven't written since August. Which is not so much a statement of fact but a statement of the bleeding obvious. Has one been waylaid by Facebook (a bit) has one been sitting around doing nothing with nowt to say (no), was one just a bit lazy and forgot about it (most likely scenario).

Oddly I've been logging into the account quite often recently. I'm not sure what I expected to find, the blogger fairy writing witty posts in my absence? Well she was awol that's for sure.

I am sitting at home in a flat that is in a Complete State. I am in a bit of panic. I have professional house cleaners and carpet cleaners coming and I am supposed to have some semblance of order here and it's chaos. I am horrified by the amount of stuff I have and I really must stop shredding papers and put things away.

The motivation for all this is that I've decided to sell. As I said to Clare the other day it's All Systems Go. I'm not sure where my new penchant for speaking with capital letters has come from but it's working for me.

So hence the chaos in the flat. I am trying to be ruthless, indeed I am, but it's creating more mayhem and mess than before I started. I am not helped, in any way shape or form, with my drinking injury. I have rather spectacularly twisted my ankle, and not in a oh look it's a bit sore way. It's bruised, swollen and painful to walk on and I have no choice but to walk on it because this flat ain't tidying itself.

And nor will it if I continue to witter on here in a diversionary fashion.

ps - we're live again.

Nunc est Bibendum

In a fit of pretentiousness years ago I adopted the above Latin as my motto.

Interestingly I have been doing a bit of an about face on that fact and am now enjoying and contemplating a life of relative sobriety. Relative to my own normal behaviour that is.

August was 'drink less month' and drink less I have. It's been a curious experiment and one that hasn't resulted in the dramatic weight loss I'd hoped but one that has given a kind of clarity to my intentions and purpose to my activities. I am at last embarking or in many cases, finishing, projects and acitivies long planned for the flat. Looking at the current state of it you would not think, it being in a complete state of dis-array but progress has been made and jobs are being completed.

I find myself waking up after an evening drinking (and this for example on Friday night - in the company of two others - included sharing 2 bottles of wine and having two pints), not excessive but not nothing - feeling somewhat remorseful and regretful at the post-drinking emotions that overcome me. What used to be just a sense of dehydration and exhaustion now are clouded by feelings of guilt and regret. I have to remind myself that drinking can be fun and that the enjoyment thereof is not a bad thing. The fact I am containing it relatively successfully should be celebrated and I shouldn't feel bad for succumbing. It was, after all, a Friday night.

These are the days of (relative) sobriety. If nothing else I'll have a tidy flat and a project free environment. That is something to be enjoyed.
