Hogarth at the Tate

I sparked up my Tate membership again recently. I do go quite often though I probably go more when I have membership. It still doesn't stop me pitching up late for the exhibitions and therefore not enjoying them as much as I could. And don't get me started on the single person discimination.

I give you the Hogarth exhibition as an example. Nicky and I arrangd to meet at Tate Britain on the Saturday before the final weekend. You can see what is wrong right there. Still what I did discover was Pimlico is quite nice, the view from Vincent Square is amazing (even if it is owned by a private boys school) and sitting out the front of the entrance of Tate Britain, Italian deli-style sandwich in hand, Guardian on lap and somewhat dodgy 'American' style cream soda to wash it all down is a perfectly lovely way to wait out the half hour I was early to meet Nicky T.

The exhibition was expansive and good. It was also full of PEOPLE. Which meant that the time you may spend lingering over the etchings or paintings was spent jostling the crowds and ultimately, as we did, playing 'count the dogs in the paintings' bingo. Nicky won, she saw cats viewing a scene of carnage.

(favourite painting, look at her face, Scene II Marriage a La Mode)

The Marriage a la Mode was very good. As was seeing Gin Lane and Beer Street but I felt slightly underwhelmed by the fact I couldn't appreciate them up close.

Note to self: book tickets early.
