La Vie En Rose
As mentioned this was waiting patiently on my DVD pile at home, courtesy of my umpteenth free membership with one or another online DVD rental company and inspired by the success of Marion Cotillard at the BAFTAs on Sunday eve, I decided to watch it. It was oh so very good and she was oh so very good in it. I struggle sometimes with biopics as genuine 'acting' rather than 'impersonation' but you know, I didn't know Edith Piaf (I know, crazy huh) and she managed to make her come to life from a 16 year old street singer to a cancer-stricken middle-aged woman, in betwee playing the successful, playful, demanding and vulnerable diva in between. Truly mesmerising.
I know this particularly because I had to stop the DVD to go and do something else (I can't remember what) and all the while I kept thinking about the film and wondering what happened. If it gets into my brain, it's a good 'un in my book.

I, as it happens, watched it last night. I thought she was amazing and thus glad I voted for her in 'want to win'. I did find the fillum overall somewhat depressing (not surprising) and a little all over the place but excellent. I am pleased I have re-discovered World Cinema. Cx
