Item 1.
Happy New Year to y'all. Have spent the morning listening to Dixie Chicks and Shania. Think pseud country vibe is finding its way in. I am obviously at work. The work vibe is elusive.
Hey ho.
So did we all have grand New Years? I had a lovely time, there is a collection of photos and video on my mobile phone if only I can work out how to upload it. Perhaps not. I was going to say that I appeared to have begun the new year in the fashion I ended it (drunk and eating rubbish), but in actual fact I have lead a chaste, pure and healthy life since my last drink sometime early on the 1st. It's all organic, caffeine/alcohol free for me these days. It won't last. I'd like to say I feel better for it, but I don't especially. At least I don't feel worse. My body reached maximum load both with food and booze and just couldn't take anymore. Ask me again on Sunday it'll be a different story I'm sure. New Year Resolution #1. Eat (healthy) breakfast every day.
You know I forgot to mention I saw my first ever pantomime at the end of last month. It was fantastic. I can't believe I've missed out all these years. Just as well I liked it, I'm off to see another next week.
One of the highlights of the Christmas/New Year period for me was that I managed to read quite a few books. I'm sure not so many by other peoples standards but when I've spent most of the year lamenting I don't seem to read enough it was an absolute pleasure to just stop whatever I was doing and curl up on the sofa or in bed and just read. New Year Resolution #2. Always carry a book.
Had a text earlier from Penny who is in India on holiday, having a lovely time and sitting near Terrence Conran who is breakfasting at the same hotel. Earlier this year Clare was in India, dining I think, near Albert Brooks. New Year Resolution #3. Go to India to be spotted by someone. (eg: OMG!!! I just saw Adriana at our hotel pool bar. She is shorter in real life!!!)
On Monday night I saw The Aviator. I rather enjoyed it. Best film I've seen all year. New Year Resolution #4. See more films than last year (26)
I watched Agatha Christie's Marple on Sunday night, after having slept for most of the day, not hungover mind - okay well a little bit - just very very tired. I really liked it. I didn't see the other ones but I do like a crime caper, don't we all? Especially the ones with a big name cast. I was foiled in guessing whodunnit though, there were too many famous faces to establish whether Frances Barber was more famous than Keeley Hawes or whether Keeley was more famous than Zoe Wanamaker? It was Zoe, I didn't guess it. Actually they're all rather silly but that's the point isn't it, why they're so enjoyable. They're prettily made, the plot is the a side issue and you get this funny old bunch of people who are always interconnected in the most unlikely ways. My husband's cousin who gave up a daughter who is living with the woman who moved to Oak Cottage and is working as the General's maid. Whilst up at the big house someone is pretending to be someone they aren't. Do you follow? New Year Resolution #5. Watch more Miss Marples.
I think I'm now writing for the sake of it, this work avoidance is working a treat.
That said however I have ground to a halt of riveting things to say. Yes, yes that happened after 'Happy New Year to y'all'......
