Ah What a lovely War

Springtime for Hitler and Germany. Come on, sing along!

Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Deutschland is happy and gay!
We're marching to a faster pace
Look out, here comes the master race!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Rhineland's a fine land once more!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Watch out, Europe
We're going on tour!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany...

Yes I went to see The Producers, courtesy of Alison and her lovely birthday present to me. It was as they say in the best of circles fablozo.

Do yourself a favour and go and see it before Nathan Lane leaves, but do leave a special cheer for the marvellous James Dreyfus and the show stealing Conleth Hill.

In other entertainment news, I am now almost over my The Grudge fright due mainly to having seen three other films in the past week or so. I watched a charming film called My Summer of Love, made the obligatory Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason visit and enjoyed it very much and finished up last night seeing the promised Ladies in Lavender. The dear Dames were marvellous but dear Mr Dance needed to fill in a few plot holes.

Moving onto music, I also saw this week Keane at Brixton Academy *aka my least favourite venue; they were rather good but I think now my tenuous association with the band perhaps now needs to be put to bed. I don't think I can cope with another bogan filled audience. Ask your nearest Australian (West Australian more specifically) for a definition.

Tonight I will be mostly watching Children in Need which I'm not afraid to say the roar of drums and cannons almost made me cry. Oh. (actually it's the sickly kiddies but I'll be topping up my wine glass and getting more food when they come on). Well anyway, I have always had a soft spot for these kind of telethons. Back in the old country it was quite frankly the highlight of the televisual year. They used to be 24 hour extravaganzas with such luminaries as Pat MacDonald and Stuart Wagstaff. I remember Dr Christian Barnard (yes the eminent heart surgeon) and Chantal Contouri doing a little sketch. And of course who can forget the Shirley Halliday dancers and last but not least the 'raunchy' part of the night when at 2.00am everyone who was either a teenager or a bloke stayed up to watch the skimpy dancers.

One year even Michael Jackson came out to Perth for it and I remember, gods honest truth, Pope Paul VI did a message. I have no idea how they achieved either of those. Probably the bravado of new money (gold and iron ore darlings*) giving them the courage asking above their station (c) Prince Charles.

A more incoherent posting I could try to post next time.

*WA is a mining state, some of the biggest gold and iron deposits in the world - or at least used to be. Primary industries a go go.

I am going to see it tomorrow and I cannot wait ;)

Oh wow - I am jealous that you got to see Nathan Lane !! Dreyfuss would have been awesome too - but Lane OWNS that role. I wont see the show till it opens in Sydney in May after its 12 month long run in Melbourne.

Telethon is still a 25 hour extravaganza and yes Stuart Wagstaff STILL shows up. No major international names this year - just former Idol top 12s ! And Barnsey and Kate Cebarano (sp). Oh - Wacko Jacko appeared back then in the 80's because Rupert Murdoch was selling him the rights to the Beatles music (barstard) and part of the sale contract was that Jacko had to make some PR appearances for Rupert. And the dancers get worse each year - as do much of the "local perth talent". The strippers only went down to their leather jeans - how sad. I think we hit 2.7mil or something this year.

And just to scare you even more - Daryl Somers has returned to television - and its bad bad bad. I demand he return to TV retirement obscurity promptly. he is hosting a celebrity ball room dancing thing and its down to a Home & Away starlet versus racist thick pollie Pauline Hanson.

Its train crash television.

ciao babe
