Period Features

Today's outfit was brought to you by the 19th century by way of 2004. It occurred to me walking down to Liverpool Street Station this morning that I was dressed in a modern day equivalent of a Jane Austen heroine.

I would never be so presumptuous to suggest I was the rather marvellous Lizzie Bennett, or the well intentioned but meddlesome Emma Woodhouse, perhaps however I could lay small claim to the earnest and worthy Eleanor Dashwood? However to answer that question I took the quiz: see who I was here.

However I digress for today my outfit consisted of a coffee coloured t-shirt (stay with me here) with empire line detailing, a modest (read: longish) cream linen skirt, demure yet elegant (I know, I know) drop pearl earrings and a pretty pair of dusky pink with chocolate trim detail shoes. But it wasn't just all of that that caused me to re-invent my walk to the station as a 'turn about the garden' it was the fact I was clutching a lovely bunch of freesias for the journey like a fresh faced virginal heroine of meagre fortune and limited prospects.

The copy of Northanger Abbey I had in my bag didn't help.

Oh honey, I can envisage 'meagre fortune and limited prospects', but 'fresh faced virginal heroine'? Methinks you are sounding more like Ms Bronte's Mrs Rochester than Emma Thompson, which, lets be honest, is who you were really imagining yourself to be whilst traipsing consumptively to the train.
