Ying and Yang
Bumped into Ricardo on the way to the office today and told him of my boy brain versus girl brain* activities the night before. My girl side went out and bought lovely books that I was inspired to buy after listening to Women's Hour on Radio 4 yesterday. Theme: Women's Watershed Fiction. My boy side bought them because they were on a list and I was missing 2 out of the top 6.
*I suspect this should really be left side versus right side. I loathe gender generalisations.
This is the same boy side that itemised and catalogued my CD collection last week alphabetically and by genre. I am currently working through other sub-categories as we speak. The girl side however was fretting over the nicest way to display them.
I make lists, a lot of lists. Currently on the go, and works in progress are:
Books I have read this year. (You know what I'm reading at the moment - still!)
Films I have seen this year. (The Village most recently)
People I used to hate but don't anymore. (Minnie Driver - her W&G has redeemed her)
Things I used to care about but don't anymore. (Fox hunting)
Actually that last point has become quite an obsession for me, in as much as I am appalled by the amount of time and energy expended on this subject which concerns a small minority of people on the whole. The animals we should be worried about and spending our time are the ones that concern us all. For example battery hens. So many people are consumers and the production processes are appalling. Yes you could argue the hunting of foxes is cruel and the rest but on a scale of importance, let's look at sorting out the stuff we eat first.
In other much more frivolous news the bauble on the top of my navel piercing came off today. For no good reason. I think it's a sign. A sign I'm too old for it and it's time to get rid of it. I mean, really, I don't change the jewellery, my tummy is too 'plump' and quite frankly I'm too old to wear mid-riff tops to expose it (add hipsters to that list too).
So do I or don't I? That is the question.
